How The Punic War Started And How It Affected Rome

There is always a nation or empire at war, whether it’s in the present or the past. Carthaginians were the empire in the Roman Republic. The Punic Wars were named after these wars, which lasted for more than 100 years. The Punic Wars were, according to many historians, the most important wars in the history of that period. They are comparable to the World Wars that took place in modern times. The Punic Wars played a major role in the transformation and growth of Rome. It was a time of great change, both economically and physically. The Punic Wars allowed Rome to expand its empire, both physically and economically.

The Punic Wars occurred between 264 B.C. Over 118-year period, the Punic Wars took place between 264 B.C. Three Punic Wars took place between the Carthaginian Empire and the Roman Empire. Each war was fought to gain territory, for either economic or military reasons. Rome won in the first Punic conflict, which was sparked by a dispute regarding the ownership rights of Sicily’s and Corsica’s strategic islands. Rome won the second war after it invaded Italy. Rome finally conquered Carthage in the third battle. The Punic Wars transformed Rome’s economy because they opened trade to the Mediterranean. Rome was able to open up the Western Mediterranean Sea after defeating the Carthaginians. They were very skilled merchants. The Roman Republic was then able to dominate trade, which led to the Romans taking over Greece.

The Punic Wars were fought because of the power-hungry leaders who once ruled Rome’s ever-expanding Empire. Sicily also offered a military advantage to the Romans, so they were keen on expanding their Empire through Sicily. Sicily, however, was controlled by the Carthaginians. The two empires were forced to go to war. Rome won the war and was on its path to becoming the largest Empire in the Western Mediterranean. Rome invaded many countries including Greece and African States after gaining dominance over the Western Mediterranean. So, a chain of events began that eventually led to Rome’s collapse. They couldn’t afford the authority they had over any other nation than theirs. This also led to a split in Roman society. Riches only became richer, and poors only became poorer. It was this political and social instability that led to riots or civil wars in Rome, between politicians and citizens.

A modern empire is a collection of nations or countries that used to be led by a different leader but now are grouped together and governed by one leader. Another way to say it, an empire is when a country is at its strongest and most dominant. Also, yes, the United States is a powerful empire in both military and economic terms. The United States can be considered an empire from the perspective of business because so many multinational companies and currencies are dependent on the U.S. currency to maintain value. The US Dollar could be described as the “golden standard” in modern business. Alternatively, the United States can be considered an Empire by virtue of its military. With over 700 installations in every direction, including North, South and East, it has a vast military that stretches across the globe. The United States was an empire ever since it began and because of the desire for power, territory and wealth. The United States was and will remain an empire until it is no longer able to support itself financially.

The Punic Wars had a major impact on the militaristic transformation of Rome. They gave Rome access to the entire Western Mediterranean Sea.
